The Doog House

"Dont try to be a great man, just be a man and let history decide the rest."

Name:
Location: Okinawa (Normally Thrilling Thiells), NY, Japan

I am a cool laid back cat that like to be all hip on the fun spots in big cities (I know hot spots in N'orleans and learned of alot in NY). I love to travel and meet new people and just chat for hours as if we are old reunited friends. I am also heavily into movies and AFI's 100. I might want to become a film historian or something like that. I LOVE baseball!! I just cant get enough of it, and there is plenty here in Japan.

Its been a long time..since my last blog. And in leiu of my abscence I have seen and done a few thing in that time to occupy my time and have collected a few thoughts on my adventures down here in the south.

1) I learned that getting cold here in the south, whether it be Mississippi, Texas or Louisiana, just means that it is time to turn off the AC.

2) Being from NY, I have taken for granted the value of good pizza and chinese food for years. When I think of ordering a pizza it is from small 'mom and pop' places like "Mamma's" or "Pappa's", etc. In any southern city their idea of ordering pizza is whether it be Dominoes, Pappa Johns, or Pizza Hut. Yuch!!
a) The chinese food is just a sad, sad situation. Cause when you get delivery you expect to see a nice friendly oriental face. And that is not said as a racist statement but rather a proof of purchase that the food was made by real Chinese people. But when Joe Bob Billy who looks like he just anally molested his cousin right after he did a Civil War enactment, it means that the food is going to be just as bad as ya fear. And alas they did not fail in that endeavor to disappoint me.
b) I am not going to even attempt to try Sushi down here.

3) The rabbits here in Texas are mutant sized, and hence called Jack Rabbits for Jacked Up Rabbits. They are cute and all though, and will not move from under a tree in the morning when ya go by them. I get annoyed when I hear someone brag about disturbing them though to throw a rock at them. Real brave of you tough guy to throw at a rabbit that isnt not even moving. Good job breaking those stereotypes of souther rednecks for me.

4) People from the Carolinas think they are the shit, and I even had one ignorant mofo say to me "Yo, you niggas in NY are pussies for allowing your buildings to be destroyed, we in Greenboro would have of snuffed those niggas." I thanked him for keeping alive the ideas of Martin Luther King and his distant cousin Rodney "so we all could just gt along..." Ignorance seems to be the main recipe here in "Bush Country".

5) Dallas is a very nice, beautiful city and helped quench my need for urban "hustle and bustle" (Just couldnt think of a better word here). I was just surprised at how small the city center was. I mean ya drive through on a thorough fare for a good ten minutes and you are out of the center wher the large buildings are. But the people in Dallas hav helped keep alive my faith in urban centers, and to allay my fears of all the south. A nice clean fun little city to visit.

6) P-51 mustangs straffing an airfield is a phenomenal experience, and I can see why our enemies feared that good-ole piston engined craft during World War II. What a machine.

7) "You must be careful here, this is a retched hive of scum and villany" words of wisdom from Obi-Wan Kenobi that I think were intended for Whicita Falls, TX.

8) Okinawa is a nice tiny lil island with about 3 million people crammed into it.

9) I learned from my Mexican friend 'Vito' the beauty of the word "Miata" (Not sure I spelt it right).

10) Dont do people favors unless they are really worth doing favors for. That is all I have to say about my lil episode from the weekend of 10/10/2004.

11) People in Texas love their football. The fucking high school stadium here seats about 45,000...the Jets would be jealous of their stadium.

I finally have to share some words with ya that were spoken to me by a wise and benevolent friend of mine, Christie, last week about why there is so much dissapointment when it comes to human relations:
"We put people on pedastals, just so we can tear them off them." Good wise words.
