The Doog House

"Dont try to be a great man, just be a man and let history decide the rest."

Name:
Location: Okinawa (Normally Thrilling Thiells), NY, Japan

I am a cool laid back cat that like to be all hip on the fun spots in big cities (I know hot spots in N'orleans and learned of alot in NY). I love to travel and meet new people and just chat for hours as if we are old reunited friends. I am also heavily into movies and AFI's 100. I might want to become a film historian or something like that. I LOVE baseball!! I just cant get enough of it, and there is plenty here in Japan.

I tell ya what, oneof the better things that ya can get is unemployment. Especially when the state owes ya like three weeks back pay worth, and your former employer is shamed into paying it by the state. It gave me an opporitunity to pay some bills and to also get some much needed DVD's such as Curb Your Enthusiasm, which has become one of my fave shows since I got digital cable. Anyone else notice that almost everyday the 2 Lord of the Rings Movies and Old School are on like everyday??

The time off has also given me an opporitunity to whip my ass into shape, cause when I get to Texas I have to be able to make a mile and a half in 14:34. Which is really no trouble at all. And ya also have to consider the human ego pushes yourself to run when ya might get beaten by someone younger than yourself. I have also spent a lot of time getting aquainted with friends and even meeting new people who regret that I shall be leaving them. But all of life is an adventure and we just write the dialogue as we go along. It is up to us to decide if the chapters are going to be boring or if they are going to have something that people want to read.

Firematically I have been a lil busy in the last month or two. I got a lil singed at a house fire which was blazing when we pulled up and I was the first one in with the hand line. I also got to drive to a brush fire which is mucho adrenaline when you are in control of the sirens and what not. And ya also realize the frustration that emergency workers go through when you have lights and sirens blazing and assholes wont pull over. The last month or so has been like one huge party and enter the fact that Faith and Christie bought me a Karaokee machine adds to the hijinks of lifes adventures.

Alrighty, a lot has happened in the last week or so but I am lazy to write about it...just know that I was first into a fully blazing structure fire and drove to a brush fire...not that any of this info increases the size of my penis...but anyways. I wanted to post some lyrics that will have a lot of significance for me...

I know you hate me, I see that now
If I was unhappy I'd be someone you could still care about
I think it's stupid and sad that everything turned out so bad
And enemies make the most interesting friends

I'm gonna write you a long letter
I'm gonna get you on a telephone
Three little words to make it all better
Maybe I'll leave this whole thing alone

It's a sad sad world without you in it
And I'm a bad bad girl for letting you down
And I remember every crazy minute
Oh, it's a sad sad world with out you around

We're to much alike for our own good
We both hate fighting no matter how misunderstood
But I wanna tell you that you're stubborn
I wanna tell you I never lied
And I wanna tell you that your friends talk way too much
And I wanna know what happened to that friend of mine

It's a sad sad world without you in it
And I was a bad bad girl for letting you down
And I remember every crazy minute
Oh, It's a sad sad world without you around

Oh, It's a sad sad world without you in it
And I'm a bad bad girl for letting you down
I remember every fucked up minute
Oh, It's a sad sad world without you around

This is part of a convo I was having with my friend, Erin, about how they should end the TV series ER...

Doogie76 (1:16:38 AM): LOL...I agree...out of ideas...have the season finale be the hospital blows up
Doogie76 (1:17:20 AM): Carter starts sniffing nitrous oxide and smoking crack at same time and place blows
ERIN (1:17:32 AM): hahahahhaha!!
Doogie76 (1:17:36 AM): That would be a great way to end a show...with a crack pipe
ERIN (1:17:54 AM): LoL..bring it all full circle

Is it just me, or does this guy scarily look, or rather looked, a hell of a lot like Sauramon from The Lord of the Rings movies??

Edit: The 1st pic is of the Hammas guy killed over the weekend

This 2nd pic is the character that actor Christopher Lee played in the Lord of the Rings Trilogy...

Eerie, isnt it??

I cant hear it anymore....I know it wa once a theme song for the Doog house, but after tonight I cant hear "Here comes the Sun" without crying. Myself and my sis were out with a few friends after the Pearl River Paddys Day parade and we were talking about Artie...a long missed and deceased friend. Well needless to say that song came on by the live band and Moe lost it on my shoulder prompting me to lose it. We cried for the length of the song, cause that was Arties song...He would listen to that on LP all the time, and being the close friend we were to him (both of us) we lost it. I went home, Moe stayed out...it re-opened a wound about a friend I lost and reminded me why 2001 sucked pre-9/11. There was only one good thing that came out of 2001 and I am not discussing that right now...

Wow is all I have to say...St Pats was a fucking blast and by far one of the best that I ever had. Myself, Marie and her friends, Kristen, Liat, Erin, took the train from Tarrytown down to Grand Central. Everyone else was 'pre-gaming' by putting rum into Pepsi one liter bottles, and what not. Needless to say a few of them were forschinkered before we even got down to NYC. We watched the parade and fell into little small groups while the Parade was on. Myself and Marie were doing a lil bar hopping between watching the parade to keep ourselves warm. And we wound up meeting up with everyone else due to the miracle that is cellular phones. Kristens friend had knee surgery and her leg would hurt her pretty bad that she couldnt walk so she wound up having to be piggy-backed everywhere. I carried her on my back, and then on my shoulders for about 7 blocks before I was just too tired to carry her anymore. Liat was a lil crazy practically kissing every fireman that she saw, I could only just be "Wow!!" as I walked away laughing my ass off.

We watched the parade for a lil while longer before Marie and myself went to a lil deli on 54th and Madison. Just to recharge but I also had too pee sooooooooooooooooo bad it was ridiculous, but the deli had a "Out of Order" sign on it. So I had to hold it in. Everyone else met up with us and we rested for a bit before heading uptown. After a beligerent cab ride, to the Upper East side, I finally was able to locate a bathroom after holding it in for 2 and 1/2 hours, and I was recharged. After a few bites of pizza and watching some girl hit her head on the top of a doorway while being carried by her boyfriend "fireman's carry" style which caused an immense amount of laughs. She was ok but man it looked like it was going to hurt in the morning.

We went to a place on 85th and 2nd, which was fucking awesome. While mixing and mingling with a few good people from cops to women, etc I got a call on my cell and it was Duane. He told me he was at Brother Jimmys with a few people from his house. So I went down that a ways and met a few of his guys from that house. And I also got to see how that fire jacket is a poonanny magnet, and that is all I am going to say about that cause I dont want to get someone in trouble. Everyone then came down to Brother Jimmys and man alive the party got fucking insanely awesome from there. Our final stop on our bar tour was Mo's Carribbean Cafe (Two doors up from Iggy's) and it was all my people there from Duane to Marie to my cousins and my sis...God damn what a fucking blast. I just have to say though to people who run that place, mopping the steps to the bathrooms at 9PM at night is NEVER a good idea. I slipped on the steps as did many other people as well, but that was really the extent of the problems there. I had a fucking awesome time that I dont even know how to describe it here. It was awesome to dance with all the girls and hang with my cousins, and the guys of Engine 58.

The only thing was when we left that place, there was a lot of miscommunication between everyone and we all wound up going different ways. I wound up missing the wrong stop and I ended up in Brooklyn, Prospect Park mind you. And it was a good samamritan black woman who said to me "Honey you in the wrong stop (Of which I knew)" But she did point in the right direction for the train. Reason why I didnt call the others to find out where they were was cause my phone had died, so it was a total WTF situation. I unplugged my battery, and put it back in and was able to get juice into it, and I called my sis who was with my bro and Patty Coughlin and they basically came and got me when I made it back to Manhattan. The whole thing was insane but an experience nonetheless. I finally made it home around 315AM, and took the Haverstraw ferry to Ossining yesterday afternoon to retrieve my car. It was the greatest Pattys day that I had and many know I am a better verbal story teller than I am a writing one. To all involved, thanks for a wonderful time...we still have to laugh and what not.

Alriighty, thing have been boring on the Doog blog, but not in Doogies life in general. Things are great as far as life goes and I find it neglectful that I dont write about it, as per Erin, a former/current padawan. I am totally over the depression that over took me around X-mas, have about 40 days till my leave date and have not a worry in the world. I mean I had one big blow out night where I fought with my bro and my best friend in the same night (Vinny and Vig to those who know me).

But what is funny is that within these same few weeks I have discovered someone who was cool to me and someone who is as equally cool. What is funny about her is that I met her like four years ago at a party for one of our firehouses and she is totally cool and chill and what not....we have chatted a lot since that night over the years and have developed a relationship with each other and what not. She always liked my sense of humor and I always liked making her laugh. Long story short we are cool as Fonzie.

What is funny about this same girl is the fact that my father is a 'honorary member" of this dept. this girl belongs too and what not. He has seen her around and what not. My father is also member of the Elks Club, Columbian Fire Dept (Honorary) and the American Legion (as a result of his Vietnam experience). Well at the Legion they have a lot of old men, but they also have young blood which are "Sons of the Legion" (Of which I am) and there people perform various tasks. Including barteninding. In the last year my father has taken it upon himself to play the role of "Emma" and be my matchmaker, and his perfect chocie for me was this girl who bartended at his legion. The funny thing is, he spoke higly of me to this girl like "Ohhhh my son is smart, he has two degrees, etc..." and this girl was like "Ohhh Vinny go home relax etc.". Anyways take it to March 2003 we come back from a parade for John Coughlin (A guy we lost in the 9/11 attacks and whose daughter I tutored in the summer of 2001) and we all go back to the legion. We get there and my father feeling all forshnickered sees the bartender and sees me and goes "Marie this is my son Dennis, Dennis this is Marie..." Not knowing that we knew each other from the proceeedings I wrote of before. Myself and Marie laughed and had a good time with is telling my father that we knew each other, BUT she didnt know my father was my father and that we were related, she laughed at that.

My father tried to play Emma again in August 2003 at my cousins wedding. But in his defense he didnt know I went out with her, but still he tried to play "Emma" cause the Matron of Honor was very forshinckered and said "We'll I am single and have no prospects..." and my father introduces me to her after this speech and goes "Your single, she's single take it away...". I was never more mortified in my life. One, cause I had just started a relationship, two cause my father saw to making my love life better. So embarrasing

Anyways, Marie went with me for a wonderful time at the Met, then we went for dinner at lil' Italy, afterwhich we went bar hopping. Which is where the legend of Marie and Doogie will live forever. We went throughout Greenwhich Village and discovered a bar not known to public but too celebs and went there and saw no less that Bob DeNeiro. God it was a majestic night. After that place Marie goes, lets go here cause it "has lights". And we go in

Well we go in and there is no one there, just a couple and some other people and what not. So we are hanging and having a good time and what not (for those reading it was a bar not too far from the Slaughtrered Lamb) and the crowd starts building. Went out to a few more places and the only highlight for me is that I actually got to see former Mayor Gulliani face to face after leaving that place and that was a thrill of a lifetime. Marie and I left NYC. It was great day spent with a great lass... This is one of my mini-sub adventures that I have had since December but havent posted forthwith.

Breathing Is Fun

Yes folks, after a 6 day stay in the hospital due to a very severe case of bronchitis, I am able to move about and breathe again. I still have a lil bit of the chest cold but at least I can breathe a lot better now. I went in on Wednesday Evening to the hospital and have been there since. It is good to be free. And it is also good to see some decent movies win the oscars...not that there have been overly bad choices over the years, but this year saw some of the kick ass movies win and that is good. Well alas that is all I have to say for now...keep hope, joy, and fun alive!!!
